The Blepharoplasty Patient: Who is getting blepharoplasty?Between 1997 and 2002, the number of patients undergoing blepharoplasty increased by 44%, placing it in the top three types of cosmetic plastic surgery, in terms of percentage growth. Women enjoy a four to one advantage in the number of female vs. male blepharoplasty patients. That said, blepharoplasty is the third most popular cosmetic surgery procedure for both men and women. Most blepharoplasty patients tend to be older. Only 5.5% of blepharoplasty patients are under 35 years of age, while 55.5% are over 50. The best candidates for blepharoplasty are men and women who are healthy (both physically and mentally) and who have realistic expectations about what blepharoplasty can and cannot do for them. While most of the people undergoing blepharoplasty surgery are over 50, it is not unusual for younger people to undergo the procedure, particularly of they have very droopy eyelids and/or large under-eye bags. |
