The Dermal Filler Procedure

The Dermal Filler Procedure

Your Dermal Filler Session

Procedure Description

Your board certified surgeon will begin your dermal filler session with an evaluation of the appearance of your skin. Your surgeon will determine the points on your face to be augmented by the dermal filler of choice. Sometimes the surgeon will mark your face to serve as a guide to where they will be making the injections.

In preparation for the injections, the sites will be cleansed with an antibacterial agent. In addition to cleaning the skin, the surgeon may administer a topical anesthetic to numb the site. Please note that hyaluronic acid based fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm contain a natural anesthetic and therefore do not require any additional numbing agents.

The actual injections only take a few moments per site. The time of the entire procedure varies according to the number of injections.

The surgeon will clean any marks that had been made to the face after the injections have been finished. Icing is usually recommended to alleviate any discomfort or swelling from the injection.

At this point, makeup can be carefully applied and you can get on with your normal daily activity. The surgeon usually warns not to put a lot of pressure on the sites that had been injected.
