Melanoma Detection
Melanoma Detection
Early detection and prevention are key when it comes to melanoma. The early stages of melanoma can usually be monitored or, if need be, treated before more serious side effects occur. Regular skin screenings with your cosmetic plastic surgeon will allow you to monitor your skin and any sun damage you may have experienced. Check your skin once a month yourself and go regularly to a plastic surgeon who has been trained to look for melanoma.
Melanoma is a disease that affects people in different “stages.” The stages range from 0 - IV. Treatment options also vary depending on what stage of melanoma you may have. If you have something that could be melanoma, your physician will biopsy it. Once your biopsy is completed and returns a pathology report reflecting your diagnosis, you will have more information on the status and stage of your skin’s lesion if it is in fact melanoma. If it is, your physician will recommend a course of treatment for you that may include other doctors.
