• For the under 30 age group, melanoma is developing faster than any other age group, increasing 50% in women since 1980.

• Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer--each hour someone dies from the disease. 

• The American Cancer Society and National Cancer Institute report that 1 in 58 people will develop melanoma. 

• Fair skinned people have less protection from UV rays than darker skinned people.

• People with darker skin (more melanin) may suffer from melanoma around the underside of hands and feet (your palms and soles) as well as under the nail beds.

• Bob Marley died in 1981 from metastatic melanoma. He was only 36.
