Kimberly K. Short, M.D., F.A.C.S
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Short's goal for patients considering breast surgery is to remain as natural as possible. Whether the patient is undergoing a reduction, lift, or augmentation, it is important to maintain the normal shape of the breast. The pattern for reductions and lifts is virtually the same, but the end result differs. A mastopexy (breast lift) is intended to lift the current breast tissue, and a breast reduction is when you remove tissue from the breast and then reshape and lift the remaining tissue. She feels it is very important to contour the breasts to appear as natural as possible, so Dr. Short will usually liposuction the outside portion of the breast to achieve this contour. Her intent with breast augmentations is to give the patient volume without her appearing unnatural. She is able to achieve this look because she takes numerous measurements in order to determine the implant that will be the best for the patient's physique. Dr. Short often uses an anatomical (tear drop shaped) implant that has more fullness at the bottom and is sloped at the top to avoid the unnatural curvature in the upper portion of the breasts. Her goal is for her patients to appear as natural as possible.

Education
B.S.: University of Southern Indiana, Evansville, IN
M.D.: Indiana University Medical School, Indianapolis, IN
General Surgery Residency: Michigan State University, Dept. of Surgery Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids, MI
Plastic Surgery Residency: Grand Rapids Area Medical Education Center, Grand Rapids, MI
Dr. Kimberly Short, a native of Evansville, Indiana attended Indiana University Medical School and continued her residency at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Upon completing her residency, Dr. Short believed that it was important to pursue further cosmetic surgery training in order to offer her patients the latest advances and the best techniques. Therefore, for the next year and a half, Dr. Short trained with both national and international experts in various fields of interest to her, which include breast, body, and facial rejuvenation. Her training has taken her all over the United States and as far as the coast of France, where she received extensive experience in many cosmetic surgery procedures with multiple approaches to each different type of procedure. She was also exposed to many techniques which were on the cutting edge of technology -- techniques which have only been around the last couple of years.
Following her extensive training, Dr. Short and her family settled in Indianapolis where she opened her solo practice. Although Dr. Short realizes that she cannot give her patients 20 years of experience, she can give them experience with the newest, most advanced techniques, and she feels this asset is critical in the practice of plastic surgery because of the continual change and advancements.
In addition, being a female and having had cosmetic surgery herself, Dr. Short is better able to relay to her patients what to expect both pre/post-operatively. She feels it is important to create rapport and trust with all of her patients, and thus, she dedicates much of her time to educating her patients about the procedures they are considering. Dr. Short's gentle, personable approach allows patients to feel very comfortable with her and their decision to pursue a cosmetic procedure.
