How Long Will Dermal Fillers Last?

Dermal fillers can have very different lives in our bodies. Some last for only a few months while others such as fat injections can be permanent. We put the following chart together to serve as a guide for what to expect. You should also consult with your plastic surgeon about what to expect from your dermal filler injections.

Below is a chart that gives the length of time each soft tissue filler will last.

Dermal Filler Brand Name(s) How Long Will It Last?
Calcium Hydroxylapatite Radiesse® Approximately 12 months
Collagen Cosmoplast®, Cosmoderm®, Artefill®,
Zyderm®, Zyplast®
Typically 3-4 months
Fat Depends Upon Individual Re-absorption Rate
Hyaluronic Acid Restylane®, Jevederm®, Hylaform® Typically 3-4 months
(Poly-L-Lactic) Polylactic Acid Sculptra® At Least Two Years

A note on collagen fillers: while most collagen fillers only last 3-4 months, there are several new products that have the potential to last much longer. Artefil® combines cow collagen with polymethylmethacrylate and may be a permanent solution. Zyderm® and Zyplast® are pig-based collagen fillers that are pending FDA approval. Zyderm® and Zyplast® may last 6-12 months.
