Recovery After Your Chemical Peel

What to Expect as You Recover from Your Peel

Recovering From A Chemical Peel

After your procedure has taken place it is not uncommon for you to experience some temporary flaking, scaling or redness and dryness of the skin. As your skin adjusts to the treatment these conditions will diminish. Your doctor will recommend the daily usage of broad-spectrum sunscreen. This sunscreen blocks ultraviolent A and B rays. There may be a short period of time where you experience a sunburn-like sensation following the procedure.

If you received the AHA peel you will experience redness followed by scaling for three to five days. Your new, rejuvenated skin will appear in approximately one to two days. In medium depth and deep peels (TCA and phenol) you will experience swelling, crusting, brown coloration and blisters that may break. Your skin will peel off over a period of seven to fourteen days. There are times when surgical tape is required to be placed on part or all of the treated skin. As you heal it is very important to protect your skin from the sun.
